Prioritize Your Outdoor Living

This sketch may look like a large amount of house, but the enclosed home is right around 1,000 square feet, and the footprint is less than 30% of a small lot. The rest of the structure are garden walls and slatted fences that create more outdoor rooms than there are indoors. When designing a new home, it can be tempting to cover every allowable inch of buildable land with enclosed architecture. People line the home design with windows hoping this will bring the outside in. The approach with this home design is to enclose only the most necessary spaces and curate the outdoor space by framing openings for trees, placing covered patios to create shade, and tunnels for breezes to run through the property: an interplay that truly prioritizes outdoor living.
